About us

 

Our story began when our Master "Braai -woodelateur", Jaco Van Der Braai, noticed that it was very difficult to get good quality braai wood at reasonable prices in the Nelspruit and White River areas of Mpumalanga. Originally hailing from Limpopo Province, from a young age, Van Der Braai was used to an abundance of quality braai wood to pick - and-choose from, sourced from the bushveld of the Limpopo Province. Van Der Braai, since making the Lowveld his home, struggled to understand why he had to spend  so much of his hard -earned cash on feshly cut, thin wet and soggy Large Leaf Sicklebush (Dichrostachys Cineria subsp.Nyassana) which seemed to be the norm for braaiwood in  the Lowveld. As a result, Vanderbraai in 2018 set out to find a solution to this problem. 

 

Van Der Braai  had some wild adventures and circumvented several  dangers in his quest to  find the ultimate braai wood. Van Der Braai is not only an adventurer, but loves nature and has an intense belief in responsibility towards nature. Van Der Braai accepted that any potential braai wood, must, in addition to quality, be sourced legally and sustainably and should have a lasting, positive ecological impact.

 

Van der Braai knew that all species of wood harvested for his customers should ideally not be any of the endangered species appearing on the List of Protected Tree Species under the National Forests Act, No. 84 of 1998 such as Hardekool (Combretum Imberbe) or Kameeldoring (Vachellia Erioloba) . It would even be more ideal if the wood that would be sourced had a positive ecological impact such as wood of declared indicators of bush encroachment under the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act, No. 43 of 1983.

 

At long last, Van Der Braai found what he was looking for and that is what we are bringing to you. Quality braai wood as well as charcoal and briquettes made from encroaching, hardwood species, sourced  through responsible bush clearing practices under the conservation of Agricultural Resources Act ("Cara").
